BACOLOD WOODPUSHERS TOPS ANGELES CHESS TOURNEY

BACOLOD CITY NATIVE Jerry Areque added another feather on his cap after winning the just concluded 2008 Angeles Chess Tournament at the Robinsons Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Areque, a habitué of Luneta Chess Plaza finished undefeated in seven games of play with six wins and a draw in a total of 6.5 points, good enough to went home the championships trophy and the title.

Tournament favorite and China Bank Corporation employee Mark Anthony Yabut of Florida, Pampanga scored 6.0 points to settle tied for 2nd to 5th placers in the company of Lyndon Sombilon of Davao City, Stephen Manzanero of Manila and Clement Valledor of Quezon City.

Rounding up to the top 10 were Alex Fernandez (5.5 pts.), Robert Halili (5.5), Catalino Pestano (5.5), Jose Camaya (5.0) and Emil Chua (5.0).
