A total of 122 player's in the Men's Division while Women's Division has 38 registered in the opening of the elimination round of the 2013 National Chess Championship held at the Philippine Sports Commission canteen in Vito Cruz, Manila on Saturday (May 4, 2013).
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Executive Director Grandmaster (GM) Jayson Gonzales, Representing NCFP Chairman/President Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. said in his statement to the opening ceremony of the tournament. "[To] discover new talents for national."
The top THIRTY (30) players from the Men's Division shall advance to the semifinal round together with the seeded titled players (International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters) and players with NCFP Rating of 2200 AND ABOVE as of April 1, 2013.
The top TWENTY (20) players from the Women's Division shall advance to the semifinal round together with the seeded titled players (Woman International Masters, Woman FIDE Masters, Woman National Masters) and players with NCFP Rating of 2000 AND ABOVE as of April 1, 2013.
The Men's Division offers PhP7,000.00 to the champion; PhP4,000.00 to second; PhP3,000.00 to third; PhP2,000.00 to fourth; PhP1,500.00 to fifth; PhP1,000.00 to sixth; PhP750.00 to seventh; PhP500.00 each to 8th to 10th placer and PhP300.00 each to 11th to 15th placer.
At stake in the Women's Division are PhP5,000.00 to the champion; PhP3,000.00 to second; PhP2,000.00 to third; PhP1,500.00 to fourth; PhP1,000.00 to fifth; PhP750.00 to sixth; PhP500.00 to seventh; PhP300.00 each to 8th to 10th placer.-Marlon Bernardino-
