14th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships 2013: Garcia, Pascua, Datu shares 2nd spot in Standard chess

International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia of Manila split the point with countryman Fide Master Hardidas Pascua of Mangatarem, Pangasinan in the sixth round to create a four-way tie for second place in the

 14th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships 2013 being held at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Tuesday.

The draw was enough for Garcia and Pascua to raised their total to 4.0 points, the same output of compatriot National Master Alcon John Datu of Caloocan City and FM Mohamad Satibi of Indonesia.

Datu toppled FM Sumiya Bilguun of Mongolia while Satibi was yielded to overnight solo-leader FM Nguyen Van Hai of Vietnam. Nguyen who beat Garcia in the fourth and Datu in the fifth round remains on top with 5.5 points in the Open Under-20 division of the Standard competition.

In the Girls 20 and under bracket, WFM Marie Antoinette San Diego of Dasmarinas, Cavite drew with countryman WNM Jan Jodilyn Fronda of Manila, however WIM elect Janelle Mae Frayna of Legaspi City, Albay was lost to WIM Vo Thi Kim Phung of Vietnam. San Diego move to solo third place with 4.0 points while Vo shared the lead with countryman WIM Hoang Thi Nhu Y of Vietnam after tallying 4.5 points. Frayna remains at 3.5 points while Fronda collected 3.0 points.

In the Open Under-16 division, Jerad Docena of Bohol subdued Nguyen Tri Thien of Vietnam to scored 4.5 points, the same output of CM Azarya Jodi Setyaki of Indonesia, winner over NM Giovanni Mejia of Labrador, Pangasinan.

Reigning World Youth U-10 Champion FM Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam drew with FM Paulo Bersamina of Pasay City to remain on top with 5.0 points. Bersamina, on the other hand notch 4.0 points along with FM Lu Chan Hung of Vietnam who nipped compatriot CM Le Thanh Tai.

In the Girls 16 and under bracket, overnight solo-leader Ella Grace Moulic of Davao City failed to continue her winning run after losing her match to WFM Dao Thi Lan Anh of Vietnam. With the win, Dao grabs the solo leadership board with 4.5 points while Moulic was stuck at 4.0 points in the company of  Huynh Ngoc Thuy Linh of Vietnam,  Saikhanzaya Ganbaatar of Mongolia, Tri Febrianti Widya of Indonesia and countryman Mendoza Shania Mae Mendoza of Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Ynna Sophia Canape of Marikina City defeated Sinnalone Sihavong of Lao PDR for her 2.5 points.

 Other member of the Philippine age-group chess team backed up by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) are Samantha Glo Revita of Rosales, Pangasinan, May Ann Alcantara of Calumpit, Bulacan and Alexis Anne Osena of Quezon province in the Girls 14 and under bracket; Allaney Jia G Doroy of Agusan del Norte, Natori Biazza Diaz of Sagay City, Negros and Bea Mendoza of Baguio City in the Girls 12 and under bracket; Mae Ann Joy Baclayon and Mary Joy Tan of Misamis Oriental and Checy Aliena Telesforo of Iloilo City in the Girls 10 and under bracket and Rhea Jane Canino of Cagayan de Oro City, Joannah Love Marie Olay of Kidapawan City, North Cotabato and Jerlyn Mae San Diego of Dasmarinas, Cavite in the Girls 8 and under bracket.
