FEU, Adamson lady chessers still kicking on Spartan Philippine Inter-Collegiate chess

Manila--- Far Eastern University Team A and Adamson University lady chess team still kicking in the on-going Spartan Mining Philippine Inter-Collegiate Chess Team Championship held at the Library and Media room of Ninoy Aquino Stadium inside Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila.

The Lady Tamaraws composed of Woman International Master (WIM) elect Janelle Mae Frayna, Erika Nikki Yngayo, Enrica Villa and Gladys Hazel Romero riase their total 12.5 points and was enough to climb at solo 3rd spot, full point ahead against 4th place of coach Christopher Rodriguez of Adamson University headed by Eunice Joy Whigan, Mariel Batulan, Crissa Canada, Jon Ira dela Cruz and Elosa Sta. Rita who notch 11.5 points. At 5th place is the team of former Asian Zonal champion GM elect Ronald Dableo of University of Sto. Tomas spearheaded by Loraine Salinas, Michella Concio, Michelle Yaon, Merlene Membrere and Shayxanthe Lois Guico who accumulated 10.0 points.

The National University (NU) chess team of head coach Jose "Jojo" Aquino Jr. with Jean Karen Enriquez, Lucelle Bermundo, Quinna Louise Soler, Hiezel Coraje and Queenie Lyn Reyes at the helm and the University of the Philippines of coach Fide Master (FM) / FIDE chess trainer Leonardo Carlos and Woman International Master (WIM) Catherine Perena bannered by Woman National Master (WNM) Christy Bernales, Roxanne Atayde, reigning NCR-Shell National Youth Active Chess girls champion Arvie Lozano, Joanna Vanessa Barbosa and Ruth Aubrey de Guzman, both tallied 13.0 points apiece.

Frayna took the top spot in the individual standings after tallying 4.5 points in five outings after beating Bernales.  Whigan, meantime at 2nd place with 4.0 points after crushing Soler.Bernales remains at 3.5 points that includes Bermundo (NU), Atayde (UP) and Enriquez (NU).

In the men's play, the team of head coach Jose "Jojo" Aquino Jr. National University led by Vince Angelo Medina, Austin Jacob Literatus, Virgen Gil Ruaya, Jefferson Mansanero and John Ray Batucan 
tallied 14.0 points.

Adamson University of coach Christopher Rodriguez led by Mark Kevin Labog, Ali Guya, Jerome Villanueva, Einnar Reyes and John Eric Margarito and Lyceum of the Philippines University Team A of eng'r. Chris Cunanan which is composed of International Master Joel Pimenetal, Jan Francis Mirano, Mark Prince Aquino, Romy Fagon and Francis Ligon, both tallied 13.0 points.

At 4th place is the team of National Master Rudy Ibanez of Arellano University led by Don Tyrone Delos Santos, Kevin Arquero, Jaymarc Gutierrez, Jeffrey Ravago and Michael Negi Penero who totes 12.5 points. 
 
The straight nine Round Swiss-System tournament organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by it's chairman/president Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. and Secretary-General 7th district Cavite Rep. Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr., hosted by  President and CEO of Spartan Mining and Development Corporation and NCFP Director for Finance Luis G. Ramos in close cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

According to International Arbiter Gene Poliarco, the format calls the combined total score of the top four players of each team, four to count shall constitute the final team standings using the grandprix system. Tournament director is NCFP Executive Director GM Jayson Gonzales.
